Your mission
We are seeking highly skilled and experienced principal system engineers specializing in various aspects of satellite communication. The ideal candidates will possess in-depth knowledge in one or more of the following topics:
  1. RF Engineering and Satellite Air Interface
  2. Network Architecture 
  3. System Security 
  4. Satellite User Terminals Design and Development  
  5. Software Architecture and Operations
  
In your application, please specify the areas of expertise for which you should be considered. The principal engineers will support the system engineering team in various tasks:

This includes:
 
  • Review of concept documents from internal Rivada teams and from suppliers, ensuring the overall consistency of the system design
  • Concept development and generation of technical notes to further strengthen the intellectual base of the company in the area of LEO satellite networks 
  • Identifying novel ideas in the area of satellite networks and supporting the process of patent applications
  • Supporting various Rivada teams, e.g. network design, regulatory, user terminal, ground segment, etc. in your areas of expertise as delegated
  • Support the following activities, within your knowledge areas, as assigned by the Systems Team and in accordance with the roadmap:
    • Consolidation of system functional analysis and breakdown in your field of expertise
    • Develop/review requirements, progress designs, resolution of issues, verification methods and testing strategies
    • Support the preparation and the successful delivery of the S-CDR/Progress Reviews and any other reviews along the path to rolling out the network
    • Preparation and/or review of relevant, technical information in the tender/contract packages
    • Support the relevant system/segment integration and testing campaigns
    • Provide input into the System Team roadmap and planning
    • Support the successful delivery and roll-out of the network and system
    • Provide input and updates into the MBSE model regarding interfaces, functional breakdown, capabilities, functions etc. to ensure that model is kept up to date for your area of expertise
  • Act as a mentor and share knowledge with the System Team members
  • Support in at least one of the following domain activities

1. RF Engineering and Satellite Air Interface
  • Review and contribute to the air interface design and requirement documents
  • Support the process of establishing the Air Interface ICD
  • Support system analysis activities to justify the Air Interface Design
2. Network Architecture
  • Support further consolidation of Rivada’s core MPLS network design
  • Review and contribute to interface requirements and interface control documents related to network design
  • Identify design justification tasks and support the teams in performing identified analysis
3. System Security
  • Supporting the process of establishing, operation preparation, and certifying an information management system (ISMS)
  • Reviewing the system security requirement baseline and ensuring proper flow down to various segments, e.g., space, user, and ground segments
  • Working with system engineers and segment leads, ensuring that the technical security of the system is in line with Rivada’s strategy, e.g., vis-à-vis target business cases and risk tolerance
  • Assessing the security requirements for operating in various jurisdictions targeted by Rivada and advise the system development team on appropriate strategies to ensure compliance
  • Reviewing and helping to consolidate the requirements for the Cyber Security Center (CSC)
  • Establishing a security frameworks for all critical aspects of Rivada program to ensure, for example, application security, cloud security, OSS/BSS platform security, etc
  • Supporting the security team in interfacing with vendors in matters related to system security, support the system team in evaluating waiver and deviation requests that are related to system security
  • Supporting various Rivada teams in their interactions with external stakeholders such as regulatory bodies
4. Satellite User Terminals Design and Development
  • Review user terminal requirements ensuring accurate flow down of system requirements
  • Support user segment throughout their development roadmap and interaction with suppliers
5. Software Architecture and Operations
  • Review the overall system functions and their implementations in hardware and software
  • Assess the coherence of the overall system software architecture across, space, user and ground segments identifying dependencies, risks and potential mitigation
  • Assess the overall system software operations to ensure that critical use cases of software operations are efficiently implement
What you bring on the table
The following requirements are mandatory: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field of study. Masters and PhD are an added advantage
  • Strong conceptual skills and ability to communicate in well-written technical documents 
  • Excellent written and spoken English
In addition, candidates should fulfil at least two of the following requirements:
 
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the focus areas, with at least 3 years specifically focused on satellite communication systems. Experience with LEO systems is an added advantage
  • Experience with DVB protocols especially DVB-S2X and DVB-RCS2. Knowledge of 5G protocols is a strong advantage
  • Knowledge of network protocols for user, control and management planes is required
  • Experience with MPLS L2 and L3 VPNs, LDP and MPLS Traffic Engineering
  • Experience with routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP) and Spanning Tree Protocol
  • Knowledge of Cyber Security Frameworks, such as NIST CSF, ISO 27000+, etc. Expertise with tactical communication systems design in an added advantage
  • Experience designing or implementing satellite user terminals, including phased arrays and modems
  • Experience with software architecture for large scale systems and the corresponding software operations is an added advantage
